On February 14th, the Alternative Class at Bowers took a flavorful journey into the heart of India by making their very own Indian chai! As part of their study of India and its rich culture, the students decided to dive into the world of one of the country's most beloved beverages.

While tea is a popular drink worldwide, Indian chai is a unique experience. What sets chai apart are the aromatic spices that are added to it, transforming an ordinary cup of tea into something truly special. The students learned about a variety of traditional spices, such as ginger, cinnamon, and cardamom, and witnessed firsthand how these fragrant spices infused the tea, creating a complex and warming aroma.

To make the chai, the class used strong black tea as a base. After allowing the tea to steep, they added milk and sugar to craft the iconic creamy, spiced milk tea that chai is known for.

This hands-on activity not only introduced the students to the flavors of India but also gave them a deeper understanding of the country's culture and culinary traditions. It was a fun and flavorful experience that helped expand their horizons, one cup of chai at a time!
